When I was 38 I was asked to speak to art students at Portland State University. Rather than give a recap of my career I decided to share 38 pieces of advice, one for every year of my life so far.
The idea wasn’t to share any big ideas, just 38 small ones. Like never arrive to a party empty-handed and hire someone to mow your lawn. Eventually the piece moved into advice for artists, like if you make performance art make sure the audience has a way to track when the piece will end.

Mike Merrill, famous for being a publicly traded person, came and proposed we stage the lecture as a performance and record and air it through Portland Cable Access. We did and the piece lives here.
I am reintroducing the piece as 50 Things I’ve Learned, based on my current age, and have added some moments of audience interaction and engagement.
This piece requires a space with a video projector and screen, and some lighting design. It will evolve in title and number of pieces of advice as I continue to age.
